Lockport Street Pedestrian Bridge over DuPage River
HEI was selected by the Village of Plainfield to provide preliminary engineering including preparation of plans, specification and estimates for widening of the IL Route 126 Lockport Street bridge over the DuPage River to provide a pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian crossing connects the existing shared-use path west of the river to the Village’s Downtown Historic District and is the initial component of the Village’s riverfront development plan. The existing substructure (including abutments and piers) was extended to provide support for the pedestrian sidewalk on the south side of Lockport Street from Countryman Drive to west of James Street and the construction of a 4-span total length 192’ dual I-beam superstructure with a nominal ten-foot wide and variable reinforced concrete deck with ornamental bridge railing. Additional services included installation of street lighting from Village Center Drive to West Main Street. HEI secured all permits, including an Illinois Department of Transportation Roadway Permit and assisted Village staff with Public Involvement activities and a successful Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Grant application.
